2014 Europe Trip - Venice, Italy (DAY 10)

Today, we leave for another country. That country is Italia!!! The 1st city is the dream destination for lovers which is Venezia *say it with the accent*.

From Marco Polo Airport, you can travel to the island luxuriously by boat or the economical way of shuttle bus. At the arrival hall, there is plenty of airport shuttle bus that took you to Piazzale Roma. – no, not Rome! We bought these from machines and we also bought the Vaporetto day pass. Vaporetto is water taxi, the public one not the private boat you see in movies. We took the ACTV bus straight to Piazzale Roma. From here, I used the personally made map to navigate the nook and crannies, small alleys to our hotel – thanks to Google Street!
Alhamdulillah, tak sesat masa kat Venice. Oleh itu, sila gunakan Google Street untuk direction berjalan kaki.

Well, the hotel reception was rude, I don’t know if that’s an Italian thing or the person is just rude. We asked when is check in and he slammed the door on my freaking face. Thhaaaankkksss! I have to go in the second time to request for a luggage storage. We walked from the hotel to the the Santa Lucia to have lunch. Then, we tried on some masks, buy souvenirs at the stalls.

Hello.
We went back to the hotel to check in and was greeted by an Italian woman. So fashionable with her rings, necklace, and high heels. We followed her to the next section of the canal for our rooms. It was small. Come on.. The stairs can only fit you and your bag. CB and I struggled to bring up the god damn suitcase. Room was okay though, clean and my room was facing the small canal. Canal kecik tu pun jadilah.

First, we went to the Burano and Murano Island via Vaporetto. Burano is famous for its colourful houses on the canal side – like you see in internet. Yes, you can go to these two islands using the Vaporetto pass. No extra charges. We first arrive in Burano and then it was raining. Yes, it rained. Thankfully we packed our raincoat while we travel around. We spent little time in Burano before moving to Murano. Murano is famous for its glass. You know those colorful glass, they are called Murano glass. Be reminded that we arrived here closed to sunset, so all factories and stores are closed. We managed however to buy small Murano glass at a small stall near the Vaporetto station.
See, all shop already closed.

We went back to Venice to go visit Basilica of San Marco and Doge’s Place. Su and I managed to grabbed some Italian gelato here. We went to see the Bridge of Sighes. Okay, people commonly associate this bridge as a romantic fantasy “ A couple who kissed under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset while bells of San Marco is ringing will have eternal love”. This bridge has a grim history – it was used as a path inmates would go through before ther are being executed of being imprisoned. Feeling romantic now?

We did not ride the gondola since it was getting dark. From here, engineered with my genius brain *Perasan lah tu* We took on a tour of the Grand Canale using the Vaporetto. Yes, it can be done. We travel through the whole canal. You have to do research on it. We managed to see the infamous Rialto Bridge while onboard. This bridge was the oldest bridge in Venice, dated back to 12th Century. People were squishing to get this bridge’s photo. Including yours truly.

We arrived at Santa Lucia station and went to the restaurant recommended by a local. Well, it wrenched my heart everytime I remembered it. We go scam shamelessly here READ: Europe Trip 2014 - The Magic Tips and Reality

With a broken heart (and wallet) we walked back to the hotel and sleep it off for tomorrow’s journey.
