The best friends.

We had breakfast at the same restaurant as yesterday and we went out for a little adventure. We went to Makam Mahsuri because Syima wants to enter it. Feeza, Kak Pah and myself excuse ourself from the itinerary. We sit down at the stall nearby and have some fresh coconut with Kuih Keria. This kuih is the best in town!

I ended up buying 3 packets to bring back home. We then proceed to the Tanjung Rhu beach. This beach is secluded and is the home for Four Season Langkawi and Tanjung Rhu Beach Resort – the luxurious hotel. There is a security checkpoint here where it states we cannot enter after 5 p.m. The Tanjung Rhu beach is secluded, calm, clean and beautiful than Cenang beach.

Clean, beautiful, calm.

All of us agree that we should have swim here instead. The beach stretch is owned by hotels which leave a small space at the end for public use. Nevertheless, it was beautiful. We went back to the hotel to check out and we go hunting for lunch – Laksa Airport. Laksa is a glass noodle serve with fish broth and the famous stall is located near the airport.

There are a lot of stalls here so we just pick one. The laksa was good and cheap. We were planning to go straight to airport but Syima gave us a shock by saying she wants to do some shopping. What??? So we just follow and went to Kuah so she can buy a teapot set at Idaman Suri. Looking at the clock, you cannot imagine how fast I was driving in Langkawi town.

We reached airport at the nick of time and manage to be in line for bag check in. We go through boarding hall and guess what. Our flight was delayed for 1 hour. We opt to have some Maggi instant noodles at the café. We reached back at KLIA2 safe and sound. Will I visit Langkawi again? Yes!
That morning, we manage to catch sunrise and we walked across the road to have our breakfast at a Malay restaurant – they have nasi lemak, roti canai here. At 8.30 a.m, we wait at the lobby for the tour group to pick us up. The van was empty at first and people keep adding up. We were given stickers and depart in a speedboat at the jetty.

This was my first time visiting island in Langkawi – I have visited Pulau Payar where we swim with reef tip sharks. Langkawi consists of 700 small islands and the journey to the islands is beautiful. The Andaman Sea give out its green turquoise colour with many limestone island and caves visible along the way. Our first stop was Pulau Dayang Bunting or The Pregnant Maiden Island. Here is located a fresh water lake up in the hill of this island. We have to do a short stairs hike up to the lake. The lake is beautiful. I saw some people dip in the lake while we chose to dip our legs in the lake.

The whole area is full of wild monkeys. They are ‘too friendly’ sometimes. We hike back down and board the boat for eagle feeding session at on of the waters. Langkawi is famous for its eagles, hence the name Langkawi cam from the word for eagle in Malay – Helang.

The eagles are huge and beautiful. It has it own elegance when it strides above the waters to snatch some chicken meat they throw out. Our next destination is Pulau Bras Basah. Okay, people tell me this is a snorkeling spot. For experienced snorkeler, this is not a snorkeling spot! It’s a swimming spot. We wasted RM 15 to rent out the snorkel gears. There is no fish at all and the water visibility is very bad.  I can only see sands. We are frustrated to even wet our clothes here. So, travelers out there do not expect to snorkel here. Payar Island provides a better snorkeling experience.

We board the boat and head back to mainland of Langkawi and we reached there around 12.30 p.m. We are tires so we just have some lunch at a pizza joint near the hotel. This evening, we are having a shopping spree. First, we went to the big HiG superharket that sell a lot of things. Let me just say that our trolleys are full with goods. I bought my hand carry luggage here that cost RM99 – it has 4 wheels!
That grey luggage is mine. This is half of the shopping spree.

We bought chocolates lots of it, some ointment and some teapot. Then, we move to various shops in Kuah so Syima can buy her family a Corelle set. I knew the place because my mum loves to shop for Corelle. After a tiring day, we have our dinner at my favourite restaurant which is Wan Thai.

Wan Thai is located at the Kuah town and it serves authentic Thai food – the owner is Thai. We ate the delicious tom yam kung, fish, prawns and even the delicious Pulut Mangga or Mango Sticky Rice. After dinner we made stop at the Night bazaar in Kuah town before heading back to the hotel and pack our stuff which is a lot.

This is the last day for us in Lombok. We had breakfast in the morning and Nik, kak Tasha and I decided to walk along the beach. We did. We went to Sunset Restaurant and walk back to our hotel. But it was not what we expected. There is no direct access and the walking pathway facility was in very poor shape. It broke and sunk. Quite dangerous as we have to be very careful where we land our foot. We manage to reach the hotel nevertheless.
Bye, Lombok.

Before checking out, we decided to go for a spa. We went across the road for a tiny spa that does not even look like a spa. I choose to do some manicure and it was not that good. The massage was good though.

We went to a nearby Ayam Penyet restaurant and eat lunch there. We went back to the hotel to pray at the small mosque build inside the hotel compound.  The driver pick us up and we were on our way to the airport. We manage to persuade the drive to make a stop at a souvenir mall so we can buy some good quality souvenirs.

Flight back home was okay and I choose to eat dinner onboard. Flight was full of passanger and I feel a little uncomfortable because person next to me and on the next row keep looking at me while I was sleeping. Creepy much?

Overall, Lombok is an untouched beauty. It is not as popular as Bali which I love. The island are beautiful but the tour execution fell a little short. I might give Lombok another try because I want to dive there, maybe next time?
Early in the morning, we pack our bags for snorkeling trip and we went for breakfast. Breakfast buffet was very generous. We meet at the lobby at 9a.m before departing to the jetty. En route, the tour guide stop at several places so we can see the coastal line of Lombok and its mountain range.

We arrived Nipah Port  and board the boat. Ha, you might not expect this but this boat is actually a glass bottom boat. After 30 minutes boat ride, we reached the first island which is Gili Trawangan. This is what they dubbed as the ‘main’ island. It is the biggest of the three and this is where all hotels, chalets are pretty much centered. We disembark here to collect our snorkeling gear and the tour guide even give some snorkeling lesson. I went to snorkel and it does not work out because there is no fish at the beach and the tides are high. I tried to take photos with my Sony camera and then it wont turn on. I later found out my camera was water damaged due to broken seal. L

En route to islands

We made a long stop here. I manage to go to the Turtle house with baby turtles and we walk along the beach. The beach is full of massage parlours, tour counters, dive centers, bars and restaurant. I do not know why we stop very long here.
Gili Trawangan
Next, we board the boat and stop off coast the Gili Meno. This is the snorkeling spot. It has beautiful coral gardens with plenty of fish. We snorkel and swim, spot nemos but the current and tides are still very very strong. I cut myself few times because of the corals. We then board the boat and went to Gili Air for lunch.

Why can we see more of this?

All of us eventually have lunch at this beach bar restaurant with alfresco dining. Quite expensive and the food taste just ok. Typical island food. The tour guide promises us to bring us to a second snorkeling spot but then he cancel because it was late. What? That was that one time that all of us were very angry. We were promised 2 spots but we only get 1. On the way back, the tides swell and there was some drizzling. We climbed on top of the roof and sat there during the journey back.

We reached the hotel and quickly wash ourselves, hang up the clothes for our BBQ Night. Before we actually do all that, Kak Tasha and I managed to jumped in the huge pool at the resort. We played some water polo and swim around. All of us join the same BBQ at the Sunset Restaurant. We ate on the beach with candle light. The seafood was good, there was even a bonfire. After dinner, we all decided to walk around this tiny town intending to look for souvenirs. We passed some spas, bars and ended up eating ice cream in front of the 7 Eleven. We then went back to the hotel and sleep.
