6.30 a.m sharp, we depart from Alplodge heading towards the Lauterbrunnen station. Our train to Jungfraujoch was scheduled at 7.07 a.m. It was cold and we expected it to be colder at the top. So all of us wear long johns and other appropriate clothing to keep us warm.

The journey from Lauterbrunnen will be on the Wengernalp-bahn locomotive. It will take you to the last station which is Kleine Scheidegg before you have to change trains to go to the top of Europe. It will take you a total of 2 hours from Lauterbrunnen. The train will stop at Eigerswand before Jungfraujoch.

Well, the train ticket was very pricey. But, the million dollar view that we get, it was worth every penny. It was so beautiful, we were mesmerised towards the whole journey. It was the beginning of summer in Interlaken, and the combination of snow and green fields definitely are easy on the eyes. Being on that train was the most beautiful moments I had in my life.

From the train, you can spot several waterfalls in the Bernese-Oberland region. The sun peeking through the Alps is just amazing.

Kleine Scheidegg

We planned to sledge at the top, however due to heavy snowfall, we did not have the time to do so. We were very lucky that the sky is clear and blue, there is no wind up top. Playing with snow is definitely exciting. Cold but exciting. We walked to the look out point and who could ever believed that we were standing at the highest peak in Europe.
Majestic.

The passport

We receive some Swiss chocolate on our way back

I have a small mishap outside in the snow because of the shoes that I am wearing. Too slippery. Thankfully there's a lovely couple from Florida that helped us. They even took our group photo. It was not crowded, thus it provides that extra sweetness to our trip. Although, there was this one time we were pushed by a group of Korean aunties. *facepalm* Selamba makcik tu tolak Nadia dengan Su. Aih, sambil debut cha, cha, cha. Terus dap at nama cha-cha-cha.

There are several things you can do at Jungfrau. We went to the Ice House that has some ice sculpture in it. Having the Good morning ticket, you have to board the 12 pm train to Kleine Scheidegg. The way back from Jungfrau offers a scenic view over the alps. I could not even count how many shots I have taken while inside the train.

We arrived in Lauterbrunnen in 2 hours. We then proceed straight to the Staubach Falls. Unfortunately, since it is early summer, we could not climb to the top. We ate lunch facing the waterfalls. 10 minutes later, my mobile phone fall onto the gravel and I cracked my screen. The feeling of heartache. Why on Earth would my phone being destroyed on the most beautiful place on Earth? Irony.

We went back to the hotel to get a quick rest. After that, we decided to venture out one more time to go to the lake. I was planning to go to a picnic spot called Bonigen. Failed. We ended up at a trailer park somewhere secluded. Nevertheless, it was quiet, beautiful and calm. We dared each other to dip our legs in the lake. We soon regrets it. People will think we are crazy dipping into freezing cold water. Sejuk gila air tasik tu. Menjerit macam apa entah. Rasa dia? Macam lena cucuk2.

'Our spot'

We bought Lindt chocolate for a bargain price. So cheap. Macam harga Cadbury je Lindt ni sebenarnya. This was our last night in Interlaken. I did my laundry, packed our stuff and sleep.
Percutian ke Switzerland - This is my favourite place!

We are moving to the beautiful Switzerland. We checked out from hotel early in the morning. Too early that we encounter several drunks along the way. We reached the bus station and nearly miss our bus to Orly! That was some adrenaline rush. Bus tickets can be purchased at the machine. We were lucky to hop in the bus just in time.

We were flying with EasyJet for all inter-flights. Verdict? It was great for a no-frills airline. Airport security in Europe are pretty strict. They take my stuff out just because I have a pen inside on my backpack. You have to segregrate your items in different trays. Yes, imagine how long it takes. Having done research, I always put the items to be separated at the top so it will be easier. For readers out there, in Malaysia, the airport security is not as strict as in Europe.

Just like other budget airlines, they offer sale of food and drinks onboard. While the smell of coffee temp me, I choose to sleep during the 1 hour plus flight to Geneva. The view was stunning as you passed above the French and Swiss Alps. Truly, magnificent. We were arriving at Geneva and I noticed the airport is in the middle of the valley of mountains. Gulp! And they descend to rapidly and steeply and it made my heart jump! Not only that, they do a sharp U-turn while descending due to the runway location. I almost had a nervous breakdown – we landed safe and sound.

We picked up our rental car and Dila has to drive 3 times around the parking so she can get used to driving on the opposite side of the road. We venture out to Interlaken via the Swiss highway. Me and Su? Sleep all the way until a rest stop 1 hour from Interlaken.

Highway to Heaven

Made a quick toilet break, buy snacks and continue our journey to Interlaken. Interlaken is a small charming town – small enough you can walk to the centre. We made a stop at the train station to buy our Jungfraujoch Top of Europe tickets. Checked in the hotel, have lunch and rest a bit before venturing out.

Interlaken means between lakes – the town is located between Lake Brienz and Thun. We took the car and began to explore the lake. On our way, the houses, the fields in Interlaken offers a charm that continue to linger in our hearts. The traditional house with their family names placed on top of the doorway and the lake of course. We finally found a parking spot – let’s face it, we did not plan an exact place to stop. This moment is truly a “not all who wander are lost” moment. We stopped at a small lakeside residence that is beautiful. They have cottages on the lake side with a beautiful backdrop of the Alps. Subhanallah!!!! Heaven on earth. We chase cats, take photos, have short strolls before heading to Lauterbrunnen.

CB wants to survey the Lauterbrunnen station so we can estimate the journey there for tomorrow’s excursion. The beauty made us speechless. The valley, the rustic charm, the grand view was truly amazing. It was a quick round trip before we went back to the hotel to rest and eat.
